God Is With Us (Psalm 46)

Lyrics

Verse 1
God is our refuge and our strength.
He is our help in times of trouble.  We will not fear, we will not fear,
Though mountains fall, those waters roar,
Though all creation trembles.

Verse 2
There is a River from God's throne
Flowing throughout his holy city
Bringing us joy, bringing us joy.
God's dwelling stands it shall not move,
His help dawns with the morning.

Verse 3
See kingdoms fall and nations rage.
They hear his voice and see his power.
God is with us, God is with us!
We stand firm in the Lord of hosts
And Jacob’s God, our fortress.

Verse 4
Come and behold what God has done.
How he has brought great desolations.
Peace he will bring, peace he will bring.
All wars will cease across the earth,
All weapons he will shatter.

Verse 5
Come and be still before the Lord.
Know he is God on high exalted.
God is with us, God is with us!
We stand firm in the Lord of host
And Jacob’s God, our fortress.

Tag
God is with us, God is with us!
We stand firm in the Lord of hosts
And Jacob’s God, our fortress.

About This Hymn

When the COVID-19 pandemic lock-down began in March 2020, the Lord kept pressing the words of this Psalm into my heart:"God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.  Therefore, we will not fear."  The Psalmist helps us to know and experience this reality by considering the mountains - he is more sure than even those!  He has promised his presence with his people in times of great trail.  This hymn was the fruit of the challenges of that early season of the pandemic and helps to remind us that God is with us in all circumstances.
